Why do we ...

invite catastrophe by choosing to live in an area plagued by hurricanes? Maybe for the same reason that people choose to live in an area threatened by earthquakes, tornados, avalanches, blizzards, wild fire, drought, flood, mud slides, typhoons, dust storms or terrorist attacks.

My answer to that question is pretty simple ... I love South Florida and the series of photos I will be posting here in Rain are little examples of why I love it so.

These are photos I took last week of some of the art deco buildings in South Beach ... more to come.

Life's a gamble no matter how you look at it ~ like the man said, ya pays your money and you takes ya chances.  Personally, I'll risk an earthquake any day of the week to live in Southern California.  I can think of worse ways to go ~ like boredom.

I can think of a lot of reasons to live in South Florida, too.  In fact, I still daydream about idling my life away in Key West, or maybe Largo...  :)

Everyone has to live somewhere.  Wonderful shots and I can quite understand why you like living there.

It doesn't seem to matter where you live, there's always some kind of natural phenomenon that can cause havoc... Blizzards, floods, tornadoes, eathquakes... We happen to have hurricaines <shrug> You try to be informed and safe as you can, other than that it's out of your hands. At least we usually see the hurricaines comeing, they aren't a surprise <g>

no matter where you live, there's something that can go wrong...east coast...hurricanes, west coast...earthquakes and the middle states....tornados...even if you leave the country, there's problems everywhere.  short of living in a  cave, we're all at risk somehow.

Love the So. Florida photos, look forward to seeing more!

I worried about tornados when we moved to Texas.  I still worry...but I realize there isn't a lot I can do about it.
Your pics are great of Sout Beach....love it there.  Now as far as Texas....it's definitely not pretty here, so I won't be posting any pics of the landscape here.  :)

You choose to live where you like, and it's nobody's
business!  Hell, the northern states have killer snowstorms,
the midwest tornadoes,  california has earthquakes!!!

South Beach - art deco buildings are great..looking forward to seeing some more pics...I live over the pond so not much chance of me going there. I agree that where-ever you live there is a chance of something happening like the London terrorists attack.....I live over a hundred miles away from London but it affect us all....Ally

there are days when the sun shines off the water just right when I feel sorry for everyone who doesn't live by the ocean
