Overcoming the fear ...

of making a wrong decision. I'm about 90 days or so into my new job. Making a real decision, a real commitment to change the entire direction of your small but stable and for the most part stress free life, is never easy.

Today I'm contemplating the amount of pain one has to endure in order to reach the pleasure of the big payoff. I'm sure this next year will be filled with many ups and downs as I'm learning the ropes. I've just got to focus on remaining flexible enough to change my strategies when necessary.

I conceive that pleasures are to be avoided if greater pains be the consequence and pains be coveted that will terminate in greater pleasures.

                              Michael Montaigne.

Any thoughts about this whole pleasure and pain concept?

Hmm - Totally understand your dilemma and wish I had your solution - then I would have MY solution ;)

The journey is usually more rewarding than the end goal.  And once you have achieved the "pleasure", you usually just go to sleep, LOL!
The rewards are much better when you have to work hard for them.  That's the payoff for everything you have done to get what you want.

the pain is always worth the pleasure.  hang in there unless its' unbeable, and only you know your threshhold.

keep the faith coy.

A book that changed my life was The Art of Happiness by the Dalai Lama. In it, he makes a great point about the difference between pleasure and happiness. It really changed me.

We have to make the most of the journey and find the small lessons the pain provides.  It takes faith that in the end,  it will all be worth it.  I think, it usually is.

I couldn't say it any better than your fellow journal readers....
Pain and pleasure are exactly opposite, yet exactly the same.

Sit on THAT one!

Ah, the growing pains... Who knew that we forty something still agonize over decisions? You are not alone, I am at the crossroads of my life and had been doing a lot of thinking lately.

Personally, I try to find pleasure in the pain. No, I'm not a masochist. ;-) I just think life's too short to be miserable and holding out for something. Sure, we need to persevere to accomplish goals but if we work to change our attitude about challenges we are facing often times it removes the black and white concept of pleasure/pain. Why isn't it just living and can't that be exciting?

I have a friend who says there is a fine line between pain and pleasure, but I am not sure she is talking about life decisions, lol.

Goals worth reaching usually have a hard journey, don't you think?
