My niece Brittney found this funky, pink, fine lady hat while shopping this season with her new college chums in Ft. Myers. She decided that she had to have the hat and that we should all wear hats for Christmas Eve Dinner.
Hmmm ... we don't really do hats here in South Florida but thought for her we could give it a try. Everyone's hats were supposed to remain a secret that we would surprise every one with on the big night.
I stressed over finding the right hat and was torn between a fine felt red feathered hat with a netting (lady luck) or a really cool straw hat from Tommy Bahama it's made by the Shady Brady Hat Co. (cute).
Mom wore her red hat, you know the one in the "when I'm an old woman poem."
I decorated my new Straw Shady Brady with a poinsettia, Mandy's little black hat was cute as can be dressed up in green and red with a tiny Christmas Bear and Theresa bought a black fine ladys hat similar to the red one I was contimplating (great minds think alike ahh ... sort of).
Our family has been known to be pretty corny at times (some times more than others), even the boy's played along ... good sports, right?
Our Christmas Eve dinner was 5 courses that took us from 4:00 until 11:30 to finish "ugh." In-between courses we played dominoes and tried out a little relaxation practice (early Christmas presents) with Origins Sensory Therapy (if you have not tried it you should), vibrating scalp massagers and the greatest microwavable, herbal scented heating pads for head, neck, feet and back. Ahhhh ....
My sister said that these photos are not the kind you want plastered all over the Internet and she's right but ... here in my journal it's just me and you guys and we're like family, right?
Ah ... does anyone else have a problem conveying your excitement about your J-Land friends to your real life friends and family? Mine usually look at me like I'm crazy or something if I mention one of you in passing conversation as if we were friends. They just don't get it ... but I guess they don't have to, right?
Anyway after dinner we opened another early Christmas present (matching pajamas for everybody) YaY! after a meal like that it was so nice to slip into some brand new comfy jammies. We always have Christmas breakfast together the next morning (it's when we open presents) and everyone comes over in their jammies for bagels orange juice and eggs. (it's a long standing family tradition).
Hope everyone is having a Merry Christmas and T, don't worry about the jammie pictures being posted, were all family here ... lol

Your family is OUR family--post all pics you want!!!
I know exactly what you mean!! When I will talk about something someones kids have done, or how they were feeling bad, or had something wonderful happen, G. will look at me and ask who I am talking about (trying to figure out in his head if he knows this person <g>), then he will be all 'Oh, your internet friends'....
Looks like you all had a wonderful time!

My daughter thinks I am nuts if I say I "know" someone I have never met, lol. I love your jammie/hat pictures. Merry Christmas! xoox
Brilliant! Hats are the best. If I had walked in on the top picture, I would have sworn that I was in a 5th Ave church for midnight service! Our tradition is to stay in pj's, one of the few times a year anyone sees me in them, and we have pigs in the blanket. I forgot about the grilled grapefruit with brandy but at $1.49 a piece, it was easy to overlook!
Thanks for sharing your wonderful Christmas.
The hats are just great!!!! I have read that poem before and it is so true.
Thanks for sharing.

Looks just wonderful, and I love the hat boxes!! Stripes and polka dots are cool. Thank you for sharing your wonderful holiday fun photos, and YES I get the same reaction sometimes about J-land friends. My mom reads journals too, so she enjoys talking about happenings, but my husband looks at me like I have two heads, and couldn't really care less. He's never read my journal, or anyone's. His loss.
Glad your Christmas was merry! Now, on to the New Year's celebration!!!! ~Phinney
It all looked like so much fun with those hats, what a great idea. I enjoyed all the pictures. Yes, we are all one family and it is great we can share these things with each other. xxxxxx
It looks and sounds like your family had a blast...I absolutely love the hats...and I have had that poem now for about 8 years hanging up in my puter room...I love it!!! Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

The hats are great! and I HAVE to know where you all got the jammies from!!!
I love this entry!!! Your family is awesome, Coy! It looks like you all had a very happy Christmas! And YES! My family & friends think I am the worlds biggest geek when I talk about all of you guys. Truth is that I spend more time communicating with all of my J-land friends the my actual friends that live close by. : )
I love the hat idea! That's really fun! We did a costume party for Elijah's 5th birthday and even the adults had to get dressed up. We had a blast! I wanted to do a PJ party for Jacy's birthday one year.. have everyone come to a morning party in their PJ's for Pancakes and ice cream. I thought it could be fun. LOL
And yes, I know exactly what you mean about explaining J-land friends. I usually just say "my friend" and leave the blogging part out of it. LOL My sister gets it because she reads my journal, but anyone else is likely to think I'm a bit nutty... or worse... desperate for interaction. LOL [That would be true! :P]
I LOVE the hats in your first picture in this entry! You all look adorable!
Hi! Coy I love your pictures and notes. I think you have a great family. Looks like you all had a great time. You know family and friends is what it is all about Look forward to reading more.
Hello Coy,
I really enjoyed your journal about the hats.. I live in the southern gulf coast area of Texas.. And all I know is all of the ladies clubs around here are very active in the Red Hat Groups.. It's been fun moving back home and getting used to being on my own for the first time in my life.. I got married at an early age and when he decided he didn't want me anymore I floundered.. Sometimes I still do.. Well you are very lucky to have such a wonderful family...
