Ivan the Terriable

This cartoon has been sitting on my desk all week (thus the dents and wrinkles), in this case I would say that a picture is worth 1000 words. LOL

We have been really hopin and a prayin that Ivan the Terrible would not pay us a visit here in south and central Florida this week. Looks like we got our wish.

I have to say that I would not have wished this really bad guy on anybody. So far he makes Francis look like Ms. Manors. The Gulf Coast is obviously in for quite a ride as the first of his outside bans are already hitting land.

I was just telling my mother that it is almost easier to prepare for a storm yourself than it is to think about your family and friends out there in harms way.

Almost all of my family (except for immediate) live in Alabama, most in the Rainsville/Ft. Payne area. We are very concerned for all of them as we wait to find out exactly how much fury Mother Nature intends to unleash.

My Dad lives in New Orleans which as we all know is sitting below sea level. If you have ever been to New Orleans you would certainly remember looking up at the Mississippi River and Lake Pontchartrain is also a risk for breaking levys that would wash away all signs of life as they know it if just the right conditions arise.  Be safe Dad ... do not, I repeat do not let me catch you at Pat O'Brians for a hurricane party Mr.

To all of you in Ivan's path, my thoughts and prayers are with you. Unlike Frances, Ivan will be bringing with him enormous storm surge and an incredible amount of rain. This one is big and this one is bad so I hope you will be taking precautions and heading for higher ground.

This morning's local Westchester paper asked, "will the Gulf Coast be the same." We pray that you will be restored, lives pieced backed together. For me the the symbol of brokenness was the I-10 picture. That proud strand across our land has been disrupted. May God grant supernatural serenity for all.

Coy, my heart goes out to all those who are being affected by this severe weather-- I was hearing a lot about how devastating a hit would be to New Orleans.  Used to be I didn't know anyone in so many of these parts of the country, but with AOL-J, I do now-- so I have to pay attention when this stuff comes on TV!  Warm thoughts your way, Albert

Oh, how funny!  I got this in an email yesterday and was going to post it to my journal, but got busy and never did it.  Isn't it the truth.  Quite a clever cartoon!

I live about 45 minutes from Rainsville myself.  We had lots
of wind, some downed trees and the power was out for two days.  But all in all we fared pretty welll.
I hope your family did too!
Love ya,

Hi Connie,
I'm glad to hear that you have weathered the storm despite all of the rain that you've gotten. We will probably get a family update tomorrow, I'm not sure that they know exactly what to expect with Ivan.
Hmmm ... 45 minutes from Rainsville, hey you aren't related to me are you??? Your last name wouldn't be Whitfield would it??? Maybe a long lost cousin twice removed or something LOL
Take care, hope that recovery will be quick for all of you there.

LOL  Great comic.  It's good to laugh about it.. when you can't do much else.  We didn't even get any rain off Ivan!  Still, I was worried about Mia and Connie and dbaumgartner - all in the direct line.  Scary stuff.
